It’s been about six months since the Ricky Martin “Black and White” tour ended. The tour took up most of my time in 2007. Since it ended, I’ve been back to work in LA playing and recording all kinds of great music. Since I’m so bad about announcing current news, I thought I’d write about what’s happened and what’s coming up.
I played the Avon Contractors holiday party in December in New Jersey. What could be a typical Christmas party put on by any other company becomes a blues showcase when it’s put on by the Avon brothers. I played tenor sax with the Kid Ramos band, which included Junior Watson of guitar, Richard Innes on drums, Larry Taylor on bass, Carl Sonny Leyland on piano, and Troy Jennings on bari sax. We backed up R.J. Mischo, and James Cotton joined us for a few tunes! After our set, The Fabulous Thunderbirds with special guest Lou Ann Barton played. Great fun—special thanks to Bob Avon and his brothers and everyone at the company.
2008 has become very busy. Lots of shows. I played three great shows at the Viejas Casino outside of San Diego--Royal Crown Revue, the Hollywood Combo featuring vocalist Sue Moreno, and the Jonathan Stout big band. I’ve done a lot of shows with Flat Top Tom and his Jump Cats and it’s been a blast. I got back together with my old buddy Lynwood Slim for a show at the world famous Derby in Hollywood with The Hollywood Combo and Matt Stubbs. I even got back into running my own band with a show at Joe’s in Burbank with my new project, “Palmetto.” The band features Mike Mennell on bass and vocals, Stewart Jean on drums, and Brian Monroney (of Tom Jones band) on guitar. My bud James Intveld stopped by and sang some tunes. I spent a few days rehearsing with Sextus, the brainchild of Eric Dover (Jellyfish, Slash’s Snakepit, Alice Cooper). Our show at the Viper Room rocked! I’m hoping for a lot more Sextus shows and recording to come. The gigs keep coming—I’ll try to keep everyone updated.
Lately I've been very fortunate to be doing a lot of recording as saxophonist, producer, and engineer. I love it. News to come...

Ron will be in Las Vegas the week of November 5th to play the Latin Grammy's with Ricky Martin. Ricky received four nominations this year for his "MTV Unplugged" CD. Ron played saxophone on the live concert recorded in Miami last August, '06. Look for Ron with Ricky and the Blue Man Group opening the show! Ricky Martin Black and White Tour 2007

Ron is currently with Ricky Martin in Europe finishing up the European leg of the 2007 Black and White Tour. Stops have included Madrid, Rome, and Monte Carlo. The tour will continue in August with two shows in Puerto Rico, followed by more US and Mexico dates in September and October. Blues Critic Top 30 Contemporary Blues Albums 2006

Lynwood Slim's "Last Call," from Delta Groove Productions, was named one of Blues Critic's Top 30 Contemporary Blues Albums of 2006.
